SPORTD FOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
The youth in our area of operation have been very much disorganized as a result of the 20 years LRA hostilities. Majority did not attend school or dropped out of school at an early age due to poverty caused by HIV/AIDS, war and death of their parents. These helpless youth and children are scattered all over the area especially in the internally displaced people’s camps without any productive venture. They are desperate and in dire need of support but see no hopes close at hand. It’s against this background that this program was initiated to act as a social reintegration program to help rebuild, reorganize and restore hope among the most disadvantaged youth and children especially the child fathers, former child soldiers and unaccompanied groups. Instead of being idle and getting trapped into social evils like stealing, sexual promiscuity or drug abuse they are rather pre-occupied with soccer in addition to other relevant short term life skills training program conducted in the club from time to time to help build their self esteem.
The program currently has a total of 30 youth and children grouped as follows: Seventy (70) youth aged between 18-24 years in the senior team, Thirty four (34) aged between 14-17 in the junior team and twenty six (26) children aged between 9 to13 years engaged in kid’s league. It’s important to note that our senior and junior team has both first and second eleven players.
HIV/AIDS AWARENESS AND BEHAVIORAL CHANGE PROGRAMME
HIV/AIDS has been realized as one of the major root cause of suffering amongst the youth and children in India today. Since many people are either infected or affected by the scourge, ESTAH MISSION adopted a holistic community based approach using music dance and drama and hosting themed sport activity as away of uniting and encouraging collective youth and children participation in their own development right from grass root level. However, it’s important to note that this activity is being carried out simultaneously in all our programs to help educate the beneficiaries on the dangers of the scourge and enable them make personal risk perception or change their behavior.
